If you''re using a relatively thin piece of metal and you have a jeweler''s saw, you can cut out a pretty close profile which will save you some grinding in the next step. I just cut out a rectangle around my basic shapeusing a hard, steelcutting wheel, you should be able to grind through the excess pretty quickly. See picture one, below.
